3/ A.W. Neill in particular was an MLA, town Alderman, Mayor and MP in Port Alberni from the 1890s to the 1940s. He was even an Indian Agent in charge of Residential Schools in the area in the early 1900s.

As a noted racist in all chambers of power he has the distinction of spouting one of the most overtly white supremacist speeches ever heard in the House of Commons when he advocated to “move ahead, make some progress toward bringing about a white British Columbia.”
