An important EV milestone. The switch to energy based pricing for DC fast charge (40-250kW) is here in Canada. I am at the Chevron charger and the free ride is suddenly over. 😊

New Price: $0.55/kWh
(common price before was $0.30/min)

For comparison, BC Hydro residential rate is $0.09 or $0.13/kWh (ie. for me to charge at home on my L2 6-8kW charger).

I started at 23% and charged to 47%, "a quarter tank", it cost $10.57 ($11.10 with GST)

1/4 tank of gas in my Prius (10L) would cost $20 but would last me a little longer due to efficiency of the smaller car.

At five times the price of charging at home, you won't see me here much anymore. Daddy will no longer forget to plugin overnight. 😆 🤷‍♂️.

Or, it will now also be cheaper for me to pay for parking at work for the day ($7) and use the L2 plugs there if I charge more than 20%.
